Keep in mind that cloth diapers do not wick moisture away from your baby sensitive skin like disposable diapers are designed to do, so you will need to change the baby very regularly. If they sit in a wet or messy diaper for long, you are going to have a little one with a diaper rash. These are painful and can even lead to infection if they become open sores at all. Frequent changing and powdering the bottom will help to prevent this.

Cloth diapers are not at all difficult to use, but the cleanup can be a bit more unpleasant and challenging. There are diaper services which will deliver clean diapers to you, pick up your dirty ones, and clean them for you. This can save the new parents a lot of time and they can devote this time to spending it with the new little baby. There is a cost to this, but it may be worth it to you, especially if you hate cleaning them yourself.

It is a good idea, even if you are choosing to use cloth diapers on your baby, to have a few disposables on hand. These are good for when you have child care providers, as not everyone is familiar with cloth diapers or comfortable with using them. Cloth diapers are better for the environment and they can save you money, but be sure you are using them in the right way so that your baby stays healthy and happy.
